Metta Method Thai Bodywork FAQ

What takes place during a session?

The Metta Method is a heart-centered approach to bodywork, designed to help you release tension, restore mobility, and experience deep relaxation. Rooted in the ancient practice of Metta (loving-kindness) and combined with modern therapeutic techniques, this session is more than just bodywork. It’s an invitation to reconnect with your body through intentional movement, mindful touch, and compassionate healing. These table-based manual therapy sessions integrate:

  • Traditional Thai Bodywork Techniques to encourage energy flow and physical balance.

  • Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) to enhance flexibility and increase circulation.

  • Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) to release restrictions in connective tissue, promoting greater ease in movement.

  • Oscillation movements to gently reset the nervous system and improve joint mobility.

  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) to activate muscle memory through assisted stretching.

Each session is a dynamic blend of passive and interactive techniques, meaning at times, you will be fully relaxed as I guide your body through gentle stretches and movements, while at other times, you may be invited to engage certain muscles to amplify the therapeutic benefits. This combination allows your body to unwind, rebalance, and integrate the work on a deeper level.

At the core of this practice is the philosophy of Metta - an embodied form of compassion, care, and presence. In Buddhist and Thai healing traditions, Metta is more than just a concept; it is a way of offering touch with pure intention, respect, and mindfulness. Each movement and technique is infused with this energy, creating a session that is not only physically beneficial, but also emotionally and energetically nourishing.

Each session is customized to your needs, whether you’re looking to relieve muscle tightness, enhance mobility, or simply drop into a state of relaxation. To further deepen your experience, you have the option to add Reiki to your session, amplifying the energetic healing component and allowing for even greater release and renewal.

Reiki FAQ

What is Reiki?

Reiki (“universal life force” in Japanese) is a healing technique that has been used for thousands of years. “Rei” can be defined as universal. It is present everywhere, and it is a higher level of consciousness. “Ki” is the same as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit, and Ti or Ki in Hawaiian. It is the vital non-physical energy that resides within all living things. Scientists even call it biofield energy. Reiki balances disturbances in the recipient’s body’s bio-energy field, and it is used to facilitate the flow of energy to address physical, mental, and spiritual challenges. It promotes a feeling of relaxation that is similar to a massage.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki balances a “biofield” of energy. Biofield is the intricately layered vibrational energy field that is said to surround and penetrate the physical body. Reiki facilitates flow where energy has stagnated. It promotes harmony and balance. It works directly on the root of the condition instead of just masking or relieving symptoms.

How does Distance Reiki work?

Distance does not interfere with reception or potency. Distance Reiki works according to the Hermetic Law of Similarity, an ancient principle which states that we are all connected. We are all energy matter, and we are all part of a larger whole. This allows me to link up to the energy field of the recipient. No distance is too far, as Reiki can be sent as far away as the other side of the world. It’s the same idea as sending prayers or well wishes to someone you care about that isn’t near you physically. The client just needs to be willing and open to receive Reiki. Reiki is a non-invasive form of healing. We are more than just our physical bodies, as we have an energy body as well. Our energy body, just like our physical body, requires nourishment to maintain a balance in function. Reiki can also include sending healing to trauma and wounds from your past. You can also send reiki to your future - a big change, an interview, a day/event you’re counting down to, etc.
